Two Hours

I slept from 4AM to 6AM this morning for inexplicable reasons. My webcam wasn't working yesterday and I wish it had, because the picture probably would have been better and my hair is still wet. Actually, I really dislike taking display pictures - let alone photos at all. However, my mom claims that my previous one makes me look "so much older," because my hair was clipped up. Frankly, I don't think that's a very nice thing to say to someone, but I still take her word for it. That's the four-leaf clover necklace she bought me, by the way. For now, I've got to run :]

All Black

What I'm Listening to: All Black by Good Charlotte. I didn't like Good Charlotte before, but some of their songs are rather catchy. (MediaFire won't let me upload the mp3 right now, so check back later)

It's been a rather long day today. I didn't have time to have anything for breakfast because I spent all my time on getting dressed for class. It helps to explain why I seem to have lost weight recently, especially since I've been following a strict popcorn and cereal with soy diet. The exact reason why I am restricting myself like this is rather complicated (i.e. I don't really know).

In accordance with the title of this post, pretty much everything I'm wearing is all black, except for maybe some silver accents. My nails, boots, eye makeup, lace gloves, dangling earrings, wrist cuff, rings, new phone (I'll make a post about that sometime), both jackets, sunglasses, stockings, boots, the stripes on my shirt, Emporio Armani watch - all black. I get very much annoyed when I get a run in my stockings, doesn't matter what kind. I finally found one in good condition this morning (that's why it took me so much time) and guess what? By lunch break, I got a run along my left leg. I'm not sure how it happened. Last time, the zipper on my boots got caught on my fishnets and I couldn't come up with any feasible way to fix it, so I was rather disheartened. Today, I decided I would layer them and neither of the flaws would be very visible and I'm happy to say that my plan worked fairly well :]

I'm not sure why the quality of these photos are so poor, but I will look into it and try to adjust the settings. The "House Mom", Mary, who is in charge of cleaning our building was hanging around and that made me really nervous, as you can see from the strange expression on my face...

My brother picked out the silk stripped shirt when he was home for Thanksgiving weekend, I had bought the blazer for DECA competitions but I've had the pleated skirt for quite a while now, but I didn't really have the audacity to wear it. I got it at a store for little girls...just making up for lost time...

I bought the lacey gloves and the pyramid-studded cuff yesterday at Ardene's at Conestoga Mall and it counted as one of the 3 for $10 items. I am wearing the chrome spinner ring and the four-leaf clover one at this moment. I forgot to take a picture of all my earrings, but they're not very exciting, so maybe next time.

It's gloomy and rainy outside today, but I wore my sunglasses because I'm trying to be optimistic ^^
I was wearing that star pendant and chain this morning, but when I got to Davis Centre just before Economics, I saw that there were some local vendors and took a look at what they had to offer.

I managed to bargain the price for the two pins and the ring to $45 altogether.

I was wearing the chrome star cocktail ring this morning and it had occurred to me that I do not own a diamond ring - yet. I've been playing with the idea of getting a brilliant diamond-cut ring for the past few days and I told my mom about this one night when I called home. Keep in mind: my father was asleep on the couch during this conversation on speaker phone...

Me: You know what's completely off-topic and just occurred to me?
My Mom: What?
Me: I want a massive diamond ring.
My Mom: Real or fake?
(Before I got a chance to reply)
My Dad: Plastic...
Me: Isn't he asleep?
My Mom: I think so, looks like it.
Me: So he's talking in his sleep?
My Mom: I don't know if he's actually awake, but we shouldn't talk about him anymore when we think he's asleep...

The next day, my mom called to tell me that she bought me a Russian diamond four-leaf clover pendant. I promised my mom that we'd go shopping for diamond rings this weekend and I'd buy one for her. We don't need some guy to get them for us XD

I am really, really looking forward to the weekend :]

The Tudors

I am currently watching The Tudors, for the sole reason that Jonathan Rhys-Meyers stars in it. My hearing is very poor, so it is difficult for me to follow it sometimes, but I think I manage alright.

In honour of the show, I am wearing my elaborate red shirt today. Again, I happened to bump into my Algebra instructor who commented on my absence yesterday (I slept in because I wasn't feeling well), as well as the high collar that he expects would be uncomfortable. Actually, this one actually feels better than the previous shirt I had on last time.

I got the shirt at Pacific Mall, I can't remember for how much exactly, but I really doubt it was expensive. I got on the wrong bus on the way back from Grand River Hospital last week and ended up at Conestoga Mall, so I called up Gregory to keep me company and help me find my way back. We wandered around and I got the pin at Le Château for $4.99. I've been searching for a cameo pin, but I really like this one, even though it's not quite what I had in mind. Good price, too. I have a whole collection of metal rose earrings, necklaces and rings, and I thought the red rose dangling earrings and the ring would go well with my outfit today. I got the pants for $10 with 10% off, so it was about $9. :]

I'm a bit annoyed today because I think I've lost my Computer Science course notes. I brought them with me to the exam yesterday and I think I forgot to bring them back with me. I hope it turns up soon.

More about my ear...

I actually found the photo of my ear that I took a couple years ago...

Tragus Attempt #2

The first time I tried piercing my left tragus it tore out when I was changing clothes after a few days. I was working on catching up on Financial Accounting when I had an overwhelming urge to mutilate or harm something this morning. I tried a number of things to distract myself; some made it better, others worse. I debated and discussed it and decided that I wanted to pierce something, so I chose the tragus again since it has now healed. I feel so much better now.

I have another picture from a year or two ago and I had more piercings then. A lot of them have filled up since then, except for the seven loyal ones (5 on along left, 2 on right lobe).

I'm in too much pain and I have too much work to go on that road trip today which is a shame, so Sherri, my don, is going all by herself because everyone canceled on her. I think I might do my laundry today and maybe go to the lab to do my CS assignment. Maybe meet up with Gregory. I should also start working on the Algebra assignment.

I got a chance to chat with a number of my friends, some of them whom I haven't contacted in a little while, like Grant and ES, which was very pleasant.

I hope this Ear-Clit piercing is secure enough not to tear out again. Not fun. My tragus really isn't very big, so there's not a lot of space for it. I also left my proper earrings at home, so I'm just going to settle for these studs.
Maybe I should try the mall around here and see if they have Ardene's or somewhere that sells earrings for cheap. An industrial bar would be nice. I'd do new piercings for that. I also want a tattoo, but one thing at a time...

Hobbies to Last a Lifetime

I've started making a whole plethora of crafts since I was three years old and I am absolutely serious when I write that. I used to do very simple origami, as well as those stars and geometrical shapes made of paper strips.

I really enjoyed cutting and pasting things at that age and I still do it from time to time, I even used it for a French presentation in Grade 11.

The cut-out is covered by a transparency and there are ribbons on both ends so the folder can be tied to prevent documents from falling out :]

For as far back as I can remember, I've been beading all my life.

I also started working with different kinds of clay and progressed from play dough (purchased and homemade), plasticine, polymer clay and ceramics. When I was fifteen and becoming vegetarian/vegan, I made marzipan creatures and flowers to decorate a cake I had made. I've also been stringing a whole smörgåsbord of different kinds of beads and knotting strings and gimp for friendship bracelets or Chinese knotting.

Around age 7, I started sewing somewhat more seriously. I bought a kit at the book fair in the library and started to learn quilting. I'm really not a very patient person, so they turned out rather ugly and useless. When I was 12, Mr. Sasaki made us sew some kind of Aboriginal design pieces. I don't have a sewing machine, but I've tried many times and I still can't seem get to get my grandmother's sewing machine to work properly. Recently, I've to hand sew almost everything: lace wrist warmers, lace gloves, skirts, hats, a dinosaur hoodie, and a reconstructed halter top and messenger bag. I also embellish my clothes with pieces of felt if I feel that they're too plain and sometimes I make little stuffed animals out of felt to make pins. There was also the duct tape era, where I used a regular sheet of paper and duct tape to make wallets and pencil cases. This lead to crafts from office supplies, which I make when it got really boring (almost all the time) when I was at work.

The paper clips still work, but they've just been transformed into little hearts <3

When the super long and thin straw fad came around, I also made bouquets of roses and jars upon jars of straws. I give them away or use them as bookends, but they're not very effective since they're not heavy enough.

I also made things from regular drinking straws, such as bracelets and animals, as well as my signature shrimp:

These straws were from Starbucks :3

The straws were from Ikea and I wanted to try fork bending. I didn't get a chance to upload how it looks from the front, but that's the basic idea.

Speaking of making things from everyday items, there was a time where I was begging people to eat the Starburst candies I had bought, but they were obligated to give the all wrappers to me in good condition. They had to be of a specific colour, so I could only buy selected flavours. I had a few blue and green ones or some other similar colours from when I hadn't decided what I wanted to make with them - I wanted to make a pheonix.

My dad came home with a weaving loom one day when I was about five, so I worked with that, but didn't like it very much.

To answer Seema's question: All of my dolls are crocheted. I think I started to learn to knit and crochet when I was maybe six years old with my grandmother, who is an expert at it. She was one of those old ladies who would make doilies out of cotton thinner than fingerling yarn. She made a cover for my piano with frills to hang from the top of it. Can you imagine how intricate and how long it must have taken her to make such a large cover of a beautiful design?? When we sold it, we gave it to the new owners, because we wouldn't have any use for it anymore. I hope they put it to good use. She also makes those little coaster-like things to put under flower vases.

At the time, I wasn't really good at either methods, because my attempted projects all had huge holes in it. I had had an on and off relationship with yarn. I took a break and when I came back to it, I insisted on knitting, borrowed and purchased a lot of books, searched up a lot of sites and bought more supplies and equipment than what was necessary. Eventually I moved on to crochet to design and create the dolls, which are known as Amigurumi, that you see on this blog. The most annoying thing about this activity is the way I manage to lose all my crochet hooks or knitting needles rather quickly, especially the most essential ones. *sigh*
I'll probably be alternating between the methods depending on my mood, like everything else I do. :3

My grandmother's eyes are failing her as she is aging, so she has passed down the yarn that she had in her house, just as she did with the Chinese knotting satin strings, and she is going to try her best to bring the rest of her stash from Taiwan. See? My yarn stash keeps growing, but I'm not alone. This happens to the best of us.

Please do not be alarmed. I still have cartons upon cartons of more unorganized of works in progress (works that have been abandoned and will probably be frogged sooner or later), more skeins of all colours, thicknesses, and fibres and qualities.
I also plan to make a trip to Wal-Mart on Monday to check out whether they have new colours and varieties of yarn. I have a list of colours that I need to purchase:

  • Different shades of orange, other than the neon one around the bottom right corner
  • I'm in desperate need of more cyan and vibrant yellow
  • Jumbo sizes of black and white or yellow
  • Safety eyes if I can find them
  • Whatever else catches my eye ;)
The focus of this post revolves around knitting and crochet because that's what I'm mostly working on at the moment. There was a point where I'd make a whole bunch of things out of pipe cleaners, felt, pom poms, glitter and sequins, but that was a long time ago and I don't have any completed pieces to display. Now, I use the felt to decorate the dolls and the pipe cleaners to put inside the arms and legs so that they can hold poses, like The Philosophical Frog. I have to remember to pick up white felt when I'm shopping for yarn, too.

So, how many years have I been knitting? I don't even know. Could you say something like twelve years on and off? I don't know.

I hope you enjoyed this post, because it seriously took me all day to write, maybe seven hours give or take.

Simple Earrings

I happened to have some simple findings in a little kit of mine and some beads. They're just long stiff posts. I lost the other black and red earring =/

These are made with Swarvoski crystal beads, a metal bead, and little 'chains', so that they dangle.

These were also made with Swarvoski crystal beads and little chains, but I don't know where I got the rune stone piece...Which one do you think it is, if any at all? Gebo or Nauthiz?

I'll type out the meaning of it if we come to a consensus.
